TTFL (part 1)

The installation TTFL (part 1) consists of a cluster of body-sized cardboard and string sculptures in shades of green, a horizontal green gradient stripe and five oscillating sounds emitted by black and white gradient tubes lying in parallel on the ground.

TTFL (part 1) results from the translation of the biological study of circadian rhythms into a mixed-media installation. The scientific model currently describing the cellular regulation of biological rhythms, the transcription-translation feedback loop (TTFL), identifies five periodically interacting proteins to underlie the self-generation of rhythms in any living cell. Sound and colour fluctuations embody the oscillation of the proteins, whilst the static equilibrium of the sculptures stresses the interlocked nature of the TTFL.
